Sulphamic acid, also known as amidosulphonic acid, aminosulphunic acid, or sulphamidic acid is a colourless and water-soluble molecular compound with the formula H3SO3. This product is mainly used as a precursor to sweet-tasting compounds such as acesulfame potassium. Similarly, sulphamic acid is used as an acidic cleaning agent due to its scale solubilising capacity to remove rust and limescale from dairy and brewhouse equipment, boilers, cooling towers, coils, heat exchangers, and condensers.
In households, it is often found as a descaling agent in detergents, cleaners and toilet cleaners for the removal of limescale. Other applications include the use of Sulphamic acid as a catalyst for esterification processes and as a chloride stabiliser for the pulp and paper industry.
