Smelting flux is a substance added to the ore to promote fluidity, remove impurities as slag, and sometimes to control the viscosity of the molten material. Fluxes react with impurities in the ore, forming a slag that is lighter than the molten metal and can be easily separated. Fluxes help to lower the melting point of the slag, making it more fluid and easier to remove from the molten metal. For example in gold smelting fluxes are used to speed up the selective oxidation process, making the separation of slag from precious metals quicker and more efficient.

    Uses and Applications

    â–¼

All Chemical’s premium smelting flux is an industrial substance added directly to metal ores during thermal processing. It is widely used across refining facilities and mining laboratories to promote optimal fluidity. It efficiently controls the viscosity of molten material, accelerates selective oxidation in gold smelting, and systematically traps unwanted impurities in a distinct slag layer.

    Benefits of smelting flux

    â–¼

This specialised metallurgical compound provides several distinct technical advantages during refining:

    • Promotes Fluidity Control: Actively reduces the melting point of slag, making it significantly more fluid and easier to strip away.
    • Speeds Gold Smelting: Accelerates the selective oxidation pathway, making the separation of precious metals quicker and highly efficient.
    • Simplifies Slag Separation: Reacts with ore impurities to form an ultra-light slag layer that floats cleanly above the molten metal.
    • In-Stock Sizing Options: Available for immediate pickup or delivery in 1kg, 2kg, 5kg, 10kg, and 15kg packs.

    Safety and Handling

    â–¼

Proper high-temperature protective gear and procedures are vital when managing this refining chemical:

    • Equip Mandatory PPE: Always wear heat-resistant face shields, safety goggles, and heavy-duty thermal gloves from our protection catalogue.
    • Avoid Dust Inhalation: Handle the dry powder in well-ventilated areas or under an extraction hood to prevent respiratory irritation.
    • Store in Dry Conditions: Keep packaging tightly sealed in cool, moisture-free storage areas to prevent chemical clumping and degradation.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Smelting flux is added to raw ore to promote fluid flow, capture severe impurities in an isolated slag, and safely manage the viscosity of molten material.

In precious metal refining, flux accelerates selective oxidation, making it much faster to separate pure gold from the floating slag.

The flux reacts directly with raw impurities inside the ore, binding them into a lightweight slag layer that sits cleanly on top of the metal.

Yes. It actively lowers the melting point of the byproduct slag, keeping it fluid and significantly easier to skim away from your target metal.

Consult All Chemical’s professional engineering team. We analyse your specific ore composition, melting parameters, and target metal type to ensure an optimised technical solution.

You can buy it directly from the All Chemical Smelting Flux shop page starting at $44.00, with local pickup or fast delivery available.
