Potassium sorbate is an odorless and tasteless salt synthetically produced from sorbic acid and potassium hydroxide. Mainly used as a preservative in foods, drinks, and personal care products, potassium sorbate helps to prolong the shelf life of foods by stopping the growth of mold, yeast, and fungi without changing the qualities of a product, such as taste, smell, or appearance.

Potassium sorbate is sold commercially in a granulated form. This preservative and antimicrobial agent contributes to preserve products and improve its properties.
