Why Is Potassium Permanganate Used In Water Treatment?
Potassium Permanganate is widely used in water treatment mailly as a powerful oxidising agent. Potassium permanganate oxidizes any present dissolved ions of iron, hydrogen sulfide, and manganese into solid particles that can be easily filtered out. Potassium permanganate controls odor and biological growth in treatment plants, pipelines and intake structures.
For wells and boreholes, Potassium Permanganate is utilized to control the iron bacteria and other biological growth. It is also very helpful in keeping the well water’s smell and taste under control. When treating well water, a concentration of 3.8 to 7.6 grams per gallon of Potassium Permanganate is ideal and effective.
