Potassium nitrate is a white chemical compound with the chemical formula KNO3. It is considered as a strong oxidant and is used for quantitative analysis.

Potassium nitrate is a water-soluble inorganic salt that is commonly used as nitrogen fertilizer. It is also found in toothpastes as a desensitizer for tooth hypersensitivity. The addition of KNO3 to growth medium has shown to promote growth in salt stressed melon plants.
