Iodine is a dark grey, purple black solid that sublimes at standard temperatures into a purple-pink gas that has an irritating odour. This halogen forms compounds with many elements but is less active than the other members of its Group VII (halogens) and has some metallic-like properties.

Iodine is used legally in pharmaceuticals, antiseptics, medicine, food supplements, dyes, catalysts and photography. It is also used to treat cuts and scrapes on the skin as a tincture of iodine, which is a dilute mixture of alcohol and iodine. Iodine is also used in lasers (silver iodide), in dyes, and as a nutrient added to table salt. End user Declaration (EUD) is mandatory when purchasing this product.
