Chlorhexidine Digluconate Solution 2% is an aqueous solution containing 19 to 21 g/litre of chlorhexidine as the digluconate salt. It is widely used in pharmaceutical formulations owing to its broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties.

Chlorhexidine Digluconate Solution is a disinfectant and antiseptic with the molecular formula C22H30Cl2N10, which is used for skin disinfection before surgery and to sterilize surgical instruments.

Chlorhexidine digluconate functions as a preservative in eye drops, skin disinfectants and antiseptics in scrubs, creams, mouthwashes, dental gels and in urology for bladder irrigation and catheter sterilisation. Chlorhexidine is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, facultative anaerobes, aerobes, and yeasts. It is particularly effective against Gram-positive bacteria (in concentrations ≥ 1 μg/L). Significantly higher concentrations (10 to more than 73 μg/mL) are required for Gram-negative bacteria and fungi.
